It was a bit on the unusual side, Maddie reflected later, to see a horse peering - with what could only be described as disdain - out of a cherry tree as though it owned the place.
At the time, of course, it had seemed perfectly normal, but then these things always do. She had merely looked at it for a while and, when it showed no signs of doing anything particularly interesting, had moved on further into the forest.

I was watching the coverage of Glastonbury on TV, and I was most amused to hear a song about a black horse in a cherry tree. The actual song was 'Black Horse -and- a Cherry Tree' by KT Tunstall, and a very good song it is, too - even if the horse remains subject to gravity and the laws of physics throughout. The image of the black horse in the cherry tree, however, stuck in my head and wouldn't let go until I'd finished drawing it, despite other far more pressing projects I'm supposed to be working on at the moment.
Maddie is a product of my own flu-addled mind, and I've taken quite a liking to her - I'm certain she'll be popping up quite regularly in the future.
wow thats a completely different style for you. Style wise it reminds me of some goth comics. Very good and a great idea to begin with. At least your making good use of the flu.
Mm, I tend to do that - completely turn around and use totally different styles.
I'm only worried that now the 'flu has gone away, I'll never be able to do it again ...
Poot.

Thankies!
Yup, the words are all my own - I was quite proud of the little spiel that went with the picture. It sort of evolved as I worked on the image.
If you want to draw one - go right ahead! Just let me know when it's done/posted and I'll link it. =^_^=

This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.

I really hope I have got over the artblock - it's been driving me mad.
Looks like all I really needed was other things to keep me busy!
